{"id":352,"date":"2021-03-30T13:54:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-30T13:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/helpcenter\/?post_type=docs&#038;p=352"},"modified":"2025-01-31T11:12:39","modified_gmt":"2025-01-31T11:12:39","password":"","slug":"metastock","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/helpcenter\/docs\/metastock\/","title":{"rendered":"Metastock"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to connect Overcharts to a Metastock database<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#cce9f5\">If you have an <strong>old-format Metastock database<\/strong> (<em>.dat<\/em> data file) you can connect it to Overcharts and use it as historical data provider<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To connect Overcharts to an old-format Metastock database, please follow these steps carefully:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1.<\/strong> Start Overcharts and press <strong>ADD CONNECTION<\/strong> button from <strong>Connections<\/strong> Tab of the Overcharts main window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2.<\/strong> Select <em>Metastock<\/em> and press <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. <\/strong>In connection configuration window, define following properties:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Connection Name<\/strong>: enter a unique name to identify the connection in Overcharts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Short Description<\/strong>: enter a unique code of a few characters to identify the connection in Overcharts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Connect Automatically<\/strong>: for this connection we recommend you select <strong><em>Connect on Startup<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bar Timestamp<\/strong>: define whether bar timestamp represents the beginning or end of bar. For example, in a 5-minute bar (from 10:00:00 to 10:04:59), 10:00:00 represents the bar&#8217;s start-time (<em>On Open<\/em>) and 10:05:00 the bar&#8217;s end-time (<em>On Close<\/em>). This property is especially useful for minutes-resolution data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill in any other required properties according to your preferences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4.<\/strong> <strong>Add<\/strong> to Path list <strong>all folders<\/strong> <strong>PHYSICALLY<\/strong> containing metastock files (<em>.dat<\/em>). If you add multiple folders and the same instrument (<em>symbol<\/em>) is present in more than one folder, data will be requested from file (<em>.dat<\/em>) belonging to highest folder in list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5.<\/strong> Press <strong>OK<\/strong> to save configuration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Add your Metastock instruments to Overcharts<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>After configuring and starting<\/strong> the Metastock connection:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1.<\/strong> Go to <strong>Instruments<\/strong> Tab of the Overcharts main window and press <strong>ADD INSTRUMENT<\/strong> button<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2.<\/strong> Select Metastock connection you have configured<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3.<\/strong> Lookup and add Metastock instruments to Overcharts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When configuring instruments, pay close attention to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>select the right instrument <strong><em>exchange<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>define the correct instrument <em><strong>tick-size<\/strong><\/em> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">otherwise, charts will not be displayed correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>For details on how adding instruments, refer to the specific article available in this help center.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How to connect Overcharts to a Metastock database If you have an old-format Metastock database (.dat data file) you can connect it to Overcharts and use it as historical data provider To connect Overcharts to an old-format Metastock database, please follow these steps carefully: 1.
