{"id":3287,"date":"2021-03-02T09:01:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-02T09:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/helpcenter\/?post_type=docs&#038;p=3287"},"modified":"2026-03-20T09:50:47","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T09:50:47","password":"","slug":"cqg","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/helpcenter\/docs\/cqg\/","title":{"rendered":"CQG"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Connect Overcharts to CQG<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#fff36b\">To connect Overcharts to CQG, you need a CQG account (demo or real) opened with <strong>StoneX<\/strong> or one of its affiliated brokers. <strong>Currently, ONLY accounts opened with StoneX are eligible for connection to CQG<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Follow these steps carefully to connect Overcharts to CQG:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. CQG Account<\/strong> &#8211; If you do not have a CQG account (demo or real), you must open a demo or real account with <strong>StoneX<\/strong> or an affiliated broker. At this time, <strong>ONLY accounts opened with StoneX are eligible for CQG connection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#cce9f5\">Visit the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/features\/brokers-data-feeds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brokers &amp; Data-Feeds<\/a><\/strong> page on our website for a list of brokers supported by Overcharts that provide CQG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2.<\/strong> <strong>Once you have credentials<\/strong> (<em>username<\/em> and <em>password<\/em>) for the data-feed <strong>from your broker<\/strong>, YOU MUST enable access to <strong>Gain &#8211; GainWAPI<\/strong> on your CQG account (if not done already). This is MANDATORY!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#fff36b\"><strong>To access CQG from Overcharts you MUST sign online<\/strong> from your account page on the CQG website the <strong>CQG End-user license agreement<\/strong> document. If you already have a configured CQG connection, create a new one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter <strong><em>Username<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Password<\/em><\/strong> <strong>ISSUED BY THE DATA-FEED<\/strong> (<em>not those you use to log into Overcharts!<\/em>) in the corresponding fields. Pay close attention to upper and lower case letters, and avoid adding extra spaces at the beginning or end of the username or password.<br><strong>Warning!<br>Usernames longer than 32 characters or containing special characters like &#8220;-&#8221; may cause login issues.<\/strong> <em>This is a limitation of CQG, not Overcharts<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Server<\/strong> property, select <em>DEMO if your CQG account is a DEMO account<\/em>, or <em>LIVE if your CQG account is a LIVE (real money) account<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4.<\/strong> Set the following properties as needed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Drop Concurrent Sessions<\/strong>: If selected, this connection will close any concurrent sessions for this CQG account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Build 1-Day data using 1-Minute data<\/strong>: Choose whether to construct 1-Day data using 1-Minute data. If selected, the opening price will be the first trade (not the auction price), and the closing price will be the last trade (not the settlement). This setting also affects daily volume totals, using only 1-Minute data, which typically excludes auction volumes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maximum Number of Strikes to Subscribe to<\/strong>: Defines the maximum number of strikes that can be subscribed to for the Option Chain data feed.<br>It is <strong>recommended not to exceed<\/strong> the number of subscribed strikes, as this directly impacts real-time performance.<br>For example, subscribing to 50 strikes actually subscribes to <strong>100 distinct instruments<\/strong> (50 Calls and 50 Puts), corresponding to <strong>100 separate real-time data streams<\/strong>!<br>To achieve the best balance between information completeness and performance, it is recommended to set the number of strikes in accordance with your operational needs, as well as the performance of your PC, Internet connection, and the data feed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bracket: Enable Leg Price Change<\/strong>: If enabled, allows modifying Leg prices (Target and Stop-Loss) in bracket orders. However, changing the main order price will leave Leg price levels unchanged. In other words, they will NOT follow the main order and must be adjusted individually, one by one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete any other required properties according to your preferences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5.<\/strong> Once configuration is complete, start the connection by clicking <strong>CONNECT<\/strong> or by double-clicking the connection. You are <em>successfully connected if all dots next to the connection are green<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you see at least one red dot, it means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Configuration parameters are incorrect<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or the data-feed is temporarily unreachable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or the data-feed demo (<em>NOT Overcharts<\/em>) has expired.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hover your mouse over the info icon (<em>next to the red dot<\/em>) to view a more detailed error message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Warnings<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Account Balance and Position Values<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#fff36b\">Values shown in the <strong>Positions<\/strong> Tab and <strong>Accounts<\/strong> Tab within the <strong>Positions, Orders, and Accounts<\/strong> window may differ (sometimes significantly) from those displayed by CQG applications. Values like Balance (Cash), Net Liquidity, Profit\/Loss of open positions, etc., are calculated by CQG based on various settings (some user-selectable). Calculation methods for these values may differ from those used to generate the values sent to external apps like Overcharts. Unfortunately, nothing can be done about this. <strong>ALWAYS refer to CQG\u2019s official app for accurate account values.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Multiple Connections to the Same Account<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you need to connect multiple platforms to the same CQG account, you <strong>MUST<\/strong>:<br>1) Ask your broker to <strong>enable multi-connection<\/strong> (<em>if not already done<\/em>).<br>2) Uncheck <strong>Drop Concurrent Sessions<\/strong> in CQG connection settings in Overcharts.<br>3) <strong>ALWAYS connect from the same IP address<\/strong>. Multiple platforms can be connected to the same account ONLY if all connections come from the same IP address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Multi-Level Bracket Orders<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CQG natively supports only a single Target\/Stop-Loss level. To allow the placement of multiple Target\/Stop-Loss levels, multiple Bracket orders are sent, each with a single Target and Stop-Loss level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Migration from Gain to CQG \/ StoneX<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#fff36b\"><strong>ONLY for StoneX clients with a Gain account migrating to CQG.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your Gain account was replaced by StoneX with a CQG account and you wish to keep historical data for Gain instruments previously used in Overcharts, follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1<\/strong>. If you have an Overcharts &#8216;All Inclusive&#8217; subscription, CQG connection is already enabled.<br>With an Overcharts &#8216;<strong>2 Data-Feeds<\/strong>&#8216; subscription, one of the two data feeds selected during subscription MUST be replaced with CQG; otherwise, CQG connection won&#8217;t be possible. To change a data feed in your plan, refer to this <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/helpcenter\/docs\/how-to-subscribe\/#2-toc-title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">documentation<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2<\/strong>. Perform a <strong>BACKUP<\/strong> of the database for all Gain instruments you want to transfer to the new CQG connection. Refer to this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/helpcenter\/docs\/local-database\/#9-toc-title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>documentation<\/strong><\/a> for backup instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3<\/strong>. For each Gain instrument, find the corresponding instrument in the CQG connection. Be careful! CQG uses different symbols to identify instruments compared to Gain. If the instrument is not among the preconfigured ones, add it to the CQG connection using the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/helpcenter\/docs\/instrument-dictionary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dictionary<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4<\/strong>. Perform a <strong>RESTORE<\/strong> of the database for the corresponding CQG instrument. Refer to this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/helpcenter\/docs\/local-database\/#10-toc-title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>documentation<\/strong><\/a> for restore instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5<\/strong>. Replace Gain instruments with the corresponding CQG instruments in charts, DOMs, T&amp;Ss, Watchlists, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff36b\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WARNING!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CQG <strong>does not<\/strong> provide continuous instruments, i.e., those identified by Gain with the &#8216;<strong>@<\/strong>&#8216; symbol (e.g., &#8216;<strong>@ES<\/strong>&#8216;). Continuous instruments for use in Overcharts with CQG are those with <strong>rollover management<\/strong> enabled (<em>all preconfigured instruments in Overcharts already have rollover management enabled<\/em>). At each Futures contract expiration, to switch to the new contract while maintaining historical data, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.overcharts.com\/en\/helpcenter\/docs\/futures-rollover\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">you must perform a manual rollover in Overcharts<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Initially, if you have data for Gain continuous instruments, you can &#8216;copy&#8217; this data to the corresponding CQG instruments. For example, if you have data for the continuous instrument <strong>@ES<\/strong> (S&amp;P 500), back up its database and restore it to the corresponding preconfigured CQG instrument (in the case of the S&amp;P 500, this is <strong>F.US.EP<\/strong>).
